Concept:

Chimera is a symbol of hope for our next step in the evolutionary time line. By creating a sculpture that includes participatory elements within an enticing form we create a space for participants to be, think, play and imagine. Chimera is a steel-based structure, whose presence describes a living creature at pause in its movement, while it manifests radical visions its simple mind can barely accommodate.

Call for images/animations and puppetry/dance:

FB-_your_art_here

Chimera Sententia wants to collaborate with you.  We are searching for artists from the community to display your video, photographic images, and animation or perform site-specific puppetry/dance work. A central part of the Chimera is a translucent head capable of supporting two very different kinds of art: low tech shadow puppets and high tech video.

The brain of Chimera is a hemispherical fiberglass projection screen. Chimera’s head projection imagery will show the process of learning and evolution of our creature as it experiences the world. We’re looking for images that support our vision of Chimera as a growing sentient creature. We will be projecting imagery onto that brain from the inside using two LCD projectors, and two mirrored optical reflectors.  We will be able to compensate for some of the deformation involved in this process.

We need high-contrast, primal images and animations that bring the torque of evolution to the foreground of the viewer’s mind.  A high degree of detail or contrast subtlety will not show up at the resolution and definition we have available.  We can make use of still images, video, and interactive animation.  We can run windows or linux software.  If your project has the ability to drive both projectors, we can make use of that, but we can also run different simultaneous video on each hemisphere of the brain. We welcome discussions from artists who are interested in collaborating with us.

Aside from video, the Fishbug’s curved head sides can be illuminated from within by theatrical lights, providing an interesting surface for shadow puppetry/ dance.  We welcome your ideas, please contact us with your concepts.
